Privacy Policy

We collect only what we need. Your data is used to deliver the game โ€” nothing else.

Overview

Fauji Chess ("we", "our", "the app") is operated by Fauji Chess ("Company"). This Privacy Policy explains what personal data we collect when you use the Fauji Chess mobile application and website, why we collect it, how we use it, and your rights over it.

By using Fauji Chess you agree to the collection and use of information as described in this policy. We are committed to your privacy and will never sell your personal data.

Short version: We collect your phone number for login, your gameplay data to run the game, and anonymous analytics to improve the product. We do not sell your data. You can delete your account โ€” and all data โ€” at any time.

Data We Collect

Account data

When you enlist (create an account) we collect:

  • Your mobile phone number (used for OTP authentication via Firebase)
  • Display name and optional call sign
  • Regiment / unit selection
  • Veteran status (self-declared toggle)
  • Current military rank (optional, self-declared)
  • Profile photo (optional, uploaded by you)
  • Language preference

Gameplay data

For every game you play, we record:

  • Move history in PGN format
  • Game result and time taken
  • Izzat score before and after the game
  • Time control and theme used
  • Opponent ID (for online games)

Payment data

Individual theme purchases are processed by Google Play or Apple App Store. We receive only a transaction confirmation โ€” no card details ever reach our servers. Mess and Unit license payments via Razorpay: we store the Razorpay order ID and payment status only. Full card details are never stored by us.

Technical data

We automatically collect: app version, device OS and version, crash reports, and anonymous session analytics (screens visited, features used). This data is never linked to your identity in analytics systems.

How We Use It

We use your data exclusively to:

  • Authenticate you via phone OTP and maintain your session
  • Display your profile, regiment badge, and rank in-game
  • Calculate and update your Izzat score after each game
  • Power the leaderboard and match history
  • Manage your Mess Room membership and permissions
  • Process and verify theme purchases and license activations
  • Deliver push notifications you opt into (match invites, rank-ups, daily puzzle reminders)
  • Improve the app using anonymous aggregated analytics
  • Respond to your support requests

We do not use your data for advertising, we do not build advertising profiles, and we do not share your data with advertisers.

Third Parties

We use a minimal set of trusted third-party services:

Firebase (Google)

Phone OTP authentication and push notification delivery. Firebase stores your phone number in their system. See Firebase Privacy Policy.

Supabase

Our database and storage provider, hosted on AWS in the Asia South region. Your profile data, game history, and Izzat scores are stored here. Data is encrypted at rest and in transit.

Cloudflare R2

Stores theme asset files (SVG pieces, sounds, manifests). No personal data is stored in R2. Only public game assets are hosted here.

Razorpay

Processes Mess and Unit license payments. Razorpay receives your payment card details directly โ€” we only receive a confirmation. See Razorpay Privacy Policy.

Google Play / Apple App Store

In-app purchases for individual themes are handled entirely by the platform. We receive a purchase token only.

We do not use advertising SDKs, tracking pixels, or third-party analytics that identify individual users.

Data Retention

We retain your data for as long as your account is active. Specifically:

  • Account data โ€” retained until you delete your account
  • Game history โ€” retained indefinitely while your account is active; deleted within 30 days of account deletion
  • Payment records โ€” retained for 7 years to comply with Indian financial regulations
  • Crash logs โ€” deleted after 90 days
  • Anonymous analytics โ€” retained for 24 months in aggregated form

Your Rights

Under applicable data protection laws, you have the right to:

  • Access โ€” request a copy of all personal data we hold about you
  • Correction โ€” update your display name, regiment, and profile details in-app at any time
  • Deletion โ€” delete your account (Settings โ†’ Account โ†’ Delete Account). All personal data is removed within 30 days.
  • Portability โ€” request your game history in a structured, machine-readable format
  • Opt-out โ€” disable push notifications in your device settings at any time

Children

Fauji Chess is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 13. If you believe a child has created an account, contact us immediately at privacy@faujichess.com and we will delete the account promptly.

Security

We implement industry-standard security measures: TLS encryption for all data in transit, encrypted storage for all personal data at rest, Firebase JWT tokens that expire every hour, and strictly limited internal access to production data. No system is perfectly secure, but we take this seriously.
