No — you can play as a guest immediately. Guest mode gives you access to vs AI and Pass & Play modes with no sign-up required. To earn Izzat, access the leaderboard, join a Mess Room, or play online matches, you'll need to enlist (create an account) using your phone number.

Tap "Enlist Now" anywhere in the app. Enter your Indian mobile number (+91), receive a one-time OTP, and verify. After verification, complete your service record — display name, call sign, and regiment. The whole process takes under a minute.

Your Call Sign is the name shown on the chess board during a match instead of your real display name. It's optional but adds a personal touch — soldiers traditionally have unofficial unit nicknames. You can set or change it in your profile at any time.

At launch, Indian Army regiments are available (36+ regiments). Indian Navy, Air Force, BSF, CRPF, CISF, and NSG units are coming in Phase 2 — all data is already seeded and will be unlocked without an app update.

Izzat uses an ELO-variant algorithm. Your score changes after every rated game based on the difference between your Izzat and your opponent's. A K-factor of 32 applies for your first 10 games, 24 for games 11-30, and 16 thereafter. Beating a higher-ranked opponent earns more Izzat than beating a lower-ranked one.

Ranks are tied directly to your Izzat score. You automatically advance when you cross the threshold — for example, crossing 4,400 Izzat promotes you to Captain. There are 16 ranks from Sepoy (0 Izzat) to General (15,000+ Izzat). Rank names and badges change with your active theme.

Yes — the rank name changes but your underlying Izzat score does not. A Captain in the Indian Army theme is an Ice Captain in Siachen and a Peak Assault in Kargil. Your leaderboard position is always based on the raw Izzat number.

No. Games played in guest mode (vs AI, Pass & Play, and Daily Puzzle) do not affect your Izzat score. You can solve the Daily Puzzle as a guest, but the Izzat reward is only credited after you enlist.

Go to the Mess Room tab → tap "Create Mess". Give it a name, optionally link it to your regiment. You'll receive a 6-character join code (e.g. GRKHA7) to share with your unit. As admin you can manage members, share themes, and run tournaments.

Individual free Mess Rooms support up to 5 members. The Mess License (₹999/year) supports up to 30 members. The Unit License (₹4,999/year) supports up to 200 members with additional admin controls and analytics.

Yes — local Mess Room mode works over a shared hotspot with no internet connection. One device creates a hotspot, others join via the join code. Move delivery latency is under 50ms on a local network. This mode is specifically designed for use in barracks and field conditions.

From the Mess Room admin panel, tap "New Tournament". Choose a format (Swiss, Single Elimination, or Round Robin), set the time control, and select participants. The bracket generates automatically and updates live as matches complete.

Go to Theme Marketplace → tap any premium theme → "Purchase". Individual themes (₹199) are purchased via Google Play Billing on Android and the App Store on iOS. Your purchase is linked to your account and syncs across devices.

Yes. With a Mess License or Unit License, the admin can assign up to 3 themes to the Mess Room. All members get access to those themes for the duration of the license, without individual purchases.

Everything. Piece names and icons, board colors, app background and chrome, rank names and badges, sound effects, and in-game commentary. The Indian Army theme uses Hinglish commentary; Siachen uses English with altitude-themed language; Kargil uses Hindi-inflected phrases referencing Operation Vijay.

Refund eligibility follows the platform policy — Google Play and Apple App Store each have their own refund windows. For license purchases made via Razorpay, contact us within 7 days if the purchase failed or was duplicated. We do not offer refunds for change-of-mind on individual theme purchases.

Yes. Your account is tied to your phone number via Firebase. Reinstalling and verifying with the same number recovers your full profile, Izzat score, rank, and theme purchases automatically.

Yes — your account works on any device. You can be logged in on multiple devices simultaneously. Each device maintains an independent game session; you cannot play two games simultaneously on the same account.

Go to Settings → Account → Delete Account. This permanently removes your profile, Izzat history, and all data from our servers. It cannot be undone. Theme purchases are non-recoverable after deletion.

Yes. Once set in your profile, the Veteran badge displays on all your games and your public profile. It is self-declared and cannot be revoked by other players.

Try force-stopping the app and restarting. If that doesn't help, clear the app cache (Settings → Apps → Fauji Chess → Clear Cache). If the problem persists, reinstall — your account data is always stored on our servers. Contact us with your device model and Android/iOS version if the issue continues.

If your opponent disconnects, you'll see an "Opponent Disconnected" notification. They have 60 seconds to reconnect before the game is forfeit. If they reconnect within that window, play continues exactly from where it stopped — no moves are lost.

Android 8.0 (API 26) or iOS 14.0 and above. 2GB RAM recommended for smooth 60fps gameplay. The app works offline for vs AI and Pass & Play modes; an internet connection is required for online matches and Mess Room sync.
